KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) yesterday distributed roses to hawkers at the market and hawker centers under its jurisdiction in conjunction with Mother’s Day today.

The roses were distributed by the Mayor of Kuching South, Datuk Wee Hong Seng together with councillors and staff of MBKS.

“The distribution of roses to hawkers started this Friday to honour mothers, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in the society,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Wee added that it was to show appreciation towards all mothers as they have sacrificed their needs and wants just to ensure their families are well taken care of.

“A mother will never ask anything from her children. But as a son or daughter, we should spend more time with our parents.

“We do not have to wait for the special day, rather, appreciation can be shown every day. Mother’s love is irreplaceable. So, appreciate and love them while we have the opportunity,” he said.

Wee reminded the public who have yet to say ‘Mother, I love you’ to do so to their mother.

“Please do so this Mother’s Day which is tomorrow because these four simple magical words would simply touch their hearts deeply.

“I understand that unlike when they were little children, the young adults now may feel a bit shy to express such love expression to their mothers.

“So, I appeal to everyone to make your mother happy as if every day is Mother’s Day and say the words ‘Mother, I love you’ whenever you can,” he said.
