MIRI: The public have been invited to attend programmes and activities held to celebrate Miri City Day at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak here.
The library, in collaboration with Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), Miri City Council (MCC), Miri Resident’s Office, and Northern Sarawak Writers Association, is hosting these events.
According to a statement, the first event would be the Miri City Day forum on ‘Miri in Poetry’ and ‘Development of Art in Modernisation’.
The forum will take place on May 19 at the library’s auditorium from 8am, and the panel includes DBP’s Policy and Research Department director Dr Hazami Jahari, author and teacher Abang Median Abang Said, Sabah Development Research Insititute CEO Dr Ramzah Dambul, DBP’s Language and Literature Development Department director Dr Abang Patdeli Abang Muhi, Miri deputy mayor Julaihi Mohamad and acting Sarawak Art Council CEO Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan.
Meanwhile, an exhibition and sale of books, arts and crafts, will be held from May 19 to 21, in collaboration with Miri Artists and Visual Art Association from 8am to 5pm.
It will be held at the library’s foyer. There will also be a Watercolor Art Workshop by artist Abdul Kadir Bisnoor, Traditional Music and Dance Showcase by Sape Movement as well as a Customers Day Counter set up by Miri Pustaka.
A seminar on Sarawak’s Uniqueness Series 3 will be held at the library’s auditorium on May 21 from 8.30am to 4pm. It will feature a panel comprising individuals from several ethnicities, including Kayan, Kenyah, Penan, Berawan, Kiput, Tering, Kedayan and Jatti Miriek, who will discuss and share their perspectives on each ethnicity’s unique values.
The Miri City Poetry Recital Night will be held at the auditorium at 8pm and will include the launch of the book ‘Miri, Kota Inspirasi’ (Miri, City of Inspiration) as well as the presentation of prizes to winners of a poetry competition held earlier.
