KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) has once again successfully organised the Malaysian Government Servants Welfare and Sports Council (Maksak) sports competition here.
In a statement on Monday (May 16), Unimas said the 7th edition was held on May 14 and 15, which saw 15 events.
“The events were long jump, discus, shot put, javelin, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 4x100m, 4x200m, medley relay, 1500m, 3000m, 3000m hurdles and 5000m.
Team Education were crowned overall champions, having bagged 24 gold, 13 silver and 12 bronze medals.
They were also crowned the men’s category champions (16 gold, six silver, four bronze) and women’s category champions (eight gold, seven silver, eight bronze).
Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) finished runners-up with seven gold, 17 silver and nine bronze. Unimas took third place, winning six gold, seven silver and eight bronze.
The men’s athlete award went to PDRM’s Belton Mosolon, who won two gold and a silver while the best women’s athlete was Education’s Monica Mercy Deru, who brought home two gold medals.
There were also two special awards – the most senior men’s athlete, which went to Unimas’ Lipok Ahet while the most senior women’s athlete was Treasury’s Nafisah Budin.
The competition was declared closed by Sarawak Maksak honorary secretary Semawi Mohamad.
