“The theme of this year’s Teachers’ Day celebration is ‘Guru Tunjang Sekolah Sejahtera’.

“This theme touches on the role of teachers in strengthening knowledge and professionalism to build a generation that can meet the goals of the national education philosophy.

“Teachers are always thirsty for knowledge and never tired of equipping themselves with various knowledge, skills and values ​​in line with the principles of lifelong learning,” he said in his speech on Monday (May 16).

Elaborating on the theme, he pointed out that teachers were the most important pillar in the national education system.

“The role and function of teachers is not only to impart knowledge to students but also to ensure that students ‘born’ from the national education system have a high personality and competitiveness through the inculcation of good practices applied in schools naturally.

“The inculcation of good practice is the cultivating of noble values, skills and positive attitudes developed in students.”

In addition, he stated that the role of the teacher was to create a learning environment that applied the 14 elements of ‘Sejahtera’ in and out of the classroom to be practiced in the lives of students in and out of school.

“Among the 14 elements contained in the concept of ‘Sekolahku Sejahtera’ are safe, fun, healthy, ethics, empathy, identity, polite manners, harmony, diligence, thoroughness, skill, exploration, rationality and articulation.

“The students we have today are the future generation of the nation’s heirs. Therefore, it is important for teachers to instil in their students a love and thirst for knowledge that will give birth to a new generation that is more glorious in various aspects of life.”

Present at the event were SK Nanga Salim headmaster Paing Lanyu, the school’s parent-teacher association chairperson Lucy Sagai, senior assistant 1 Dayang Jampaka Awang Ali Basah, senior assistant of student affairs Hu Leh Sing, senior assistant of co-curriculum Willy Edwin, other teachers and adminstrative staff.
