KUCHING: A total of 675,077 of new voters are now on the electoral rolls following the implementation of Undi 18 and automatic voter registration in Sarawak.
Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian disclosed that the statistics were shared by the Election Commission (EC) during a briefing session with state elected representatives on Monday (May 16) at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building.
With the increase in number of new voters in the fourth quarter of 2021, he stated that Sarawak had a total of 1,927,750 voters as of Dec 31 last year.
“Before the fourth quarter of 2021, there were 1,255,113 voters in Sarawak. Of these, there were 143,609 (20.9 per cent) of 18 to 20-year-old voters; 310,391 (45.2 per cent) of 21 to 29-year-old voters and 132,022 (19.23 per cent) of 30 to 39-year-old voters.
“There were 39 constituencies with less than 6,000 voters, 25 constituencies with between 6,000 and 12,000 voters, 15 constituencies with between 12,000 and 18,000 voters, one constituency with between 18,000 and 24,000 voters and two constituencies with more than 24,000 voters,” he said on Monday (May 16).
Dr Sim who is also Minister of Public Health, Local Government, and Housing said that Senadin, Tupong, Lambir, Dudong, Kota Sentosa, Batu Kawa, Pantai Damai, Batu Lintang, Pujut, and Samariang are among the top 10 constituencies with the largest number of voters.
Senadin saw an increase from 34,274 voters to 67,904 voters; Tupong from 26,120 voters to 51,335 voters; Lambir from 19,911 voters to 38,277 voters; Dudong from 35,061 voters to 52,062 voters; Kota Sentosa from 28,355 voters to 45,422 voters; Batu Kawa from 20,719 voters to 37,765 voters; Pantai Damai from 20,578 voters to 37,527 voters; Batu Lintang from 29,735 voters to 46,150 voters; Pujut from 27,593 voters to 43,774 voters and Samariang from 21,438 voters to 37,609 voters.
