KUCHING: Kuching City Lions Club and St Joseph’s Private School Leo Club received the Kindness Matters Service Awards from Lions Clubs International and were presented with commemorative medals in honour of president Roger Ting going bald for the Sarawak Children Cancer Society (SCCS) during the 2020-2021 fiscal year, recently.
According to a statement, a total of 26 Lions volunteered more than 52 hours in the virtual fundraising project and as a result of their efforts, more than 120 children with cancer and their families benefitted through the various services provided by SCCS.
St Joseph’s Private School Leo Club, sponsored by Kuching City Lions Club, was also presented with the Kindness Matters Service Award and commemorative medals for their Christmas party at Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Malaysia (PEYATIM), a joint project with McDonald’s Tabuan Jaya during 2020-2021 fiscal year.
There were also 15 Leos who volunteered for more than 18 hours and as a result of their efforts, more than 103 youths were able to experience Christmas joy.
Kuching City Lion Club president Dr Chong Pek Lin said the club was deeply honoured to receive the Kindness Matters Service Award and that this recognition would surely inspire the club to set higher goals in its mission to serve the community and those in need.
St Joseph’s Private School Leo Club president Michael Wong hoped to have more projects to help the community.
“As club president, I feel very proud of our Leos who carried out the project successfully and spread Christmas spirit among the youths.
“I feel inspired and motivated to carry out more projects such as these to touch the hearts of the community.”
