KUCHING: It’s better to be late than sorry. An elderly woman however totally disregarded this pearl of wisdom and drove against the traffic, simply because she was in a hurry to make some money.
Unfortunately for her the long arm of the law saw via Facebook what she was up to at the Pending traffic light junction near the Tanah Puteh Health Clinic on Saturday.
It was a clear case of endangering other motorists and police started looking for her.
District Deputy Chief of Police Supt Merbin Lisa said the 75-year-old woman finally turned herself in to police yesterday.
“We found her vehicle in the Pending area and in the evening the suspect came to the Kuching IPD.
“For now, the suspect has been taken into custody and the investigation paper will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further action,” he told the media after the Kuching District Police Chief’s monthly assembly here on Tuesday (May 17).
The woman claimed that she was in a hurry to sell used items at a nearby secondhand factory at the time, he said.
“Since the factory is expected to close soon (on that day) and the traffic congestion, she made the wrong decision by going against the flow of traffic in order to go to the factory,” he explained.
Investigations are continuing.
