PLANS are underway to upgrade Jalan Batu Kitang towards Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong into four lanes as part of the proposed Inner Ring Road Kuching Division under package D.

Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Aidel Lariwoo said the design was ready and the construction plans of the proposed road would be submitted under the Mid-Term Review of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) in 2023 for consideration.

He was replying to Lo Khere Chiang (GPS-Batu Kitang) who asked if there were any plans during question and answer time today.

To a supplementary question on the number of packages under construction and completion and their status, he said five packages were proposed but only two were currently under construction.

“The ongoing project is the upgrading of 7.75 km-long existing single carriageway to dual carriageway from Mardi/Jalan Sultan Tengah to Demak/Gersik roundabout,” he said.

He said the project costing RM65.88 million was due for completion in July 2, 2023.

He said the remaining three packages were still in the design stage.
