KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), together with Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) is setting up an education fund called the Barbara Mendu Bay Education Fund.
SUPP president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the foundation is in honour of the goods work of Barbara Mendu Bay for the Bumiputera community.
“Over here we are celebrating our multiracial roots for being a multiracial party. And Barbara Mendu Bay was one of the founding members of SUPP, and the first president of SIDS.
“Together with SIDS, we set up an education fund in her name and have raised RM100,000 from our (SUPP) delegates for the fund,” he said.
Earlier, at the SIDS Mother’s Day and pre-Gawai celebration in Sibu on Sunday (May 22), SIDS president Datuk Ir Alice Jawan said that the foundation would help Sarakup children and Dayak children who enter secondary schools, matriculation or universities.
“Barbara was a member of SUPP, that is why I also talked to Dr Sim to ask SUPP to support this fund, and he has agreed on the matter,” she said.
