DEBAK: Kuih Sepit Legend Debak received more than RM30,000 worth of orders for various types of dried cakes throughout May for this year’s Gawai Dayak celebration.

Its founder, Normadhia Ahmad, 28, said the best-selling was the original Debak-made ‘kuih sepit’.

“Thank God, we were able to complete the order with all four of our production staff always busily preparing the items ordered by customers.

“For example, in May, we received orders worth more than RM30,000 for various types of dried cakes, with the most popular being ‘kuih sepit’,” she told Suara Sarawak/New Sarawak Tribune, yesterday.

The young entrepreneur clarified that customers now prefer canned packaging, which has more content.

Normadhia takes a selfie with a customer.

“I’m sure customers feel buying canned packaging is much more worthwhile.

“The high order rate is also because more and more people are aware of the tasty dried cakes by the Kuih Sepit Legend Debak brand, with many customers making repeat orders.

“For me, thank God, it is due to the hard work of more than 40 years that I have inherited from the family business,” she said.

It is not a foreign product for Sarawakians, because before the pandemic, business activities were active in rural areas, let alone in big cities.

“In short, everyone knows the cake by natives of Debak which is quite special in terms of taste and ingredients used especially natural coconut milk, ‘lemantak’ flour or wet sago and ‘gula apong’ (nipah sugar) which creates a difference when it reaches our tongue.

“Honestly, this is the endeavour of my mother, Satiah Jabar, 58, which I inherit and continue with the injection of some modern elements with the change of time,” added Normadhia.

Regarding the current challenges, she said she is facing a shortage of raw materials, especially flour and eggs.

In conjunction with Gawai Dayak which is celebrated today (June 1), Normadhia wishes ‘Selamat Ngintu Hari Gawai, Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai, Lantang Senang Nguan Menua … Ooo haaa’ to all who are celebrating it, especially to the customers of Kuih Sepit Legend Debak.
