SIBU: A 25-year-old youth has to spend the next two months in prison as he could not pay fine of RM1,000 imposed by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for committing mischief.
Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar meted out the sentence on Ruddy Gira Lalong from Jalan Oya by fining him RM1,000. Failure to pay the fine would land him in jail for two months.
The charge referred to the accused stated that he did commit mischief by damaging the wooden wall panel of the house and a toilet door belonging to one Jawai Nasi which caused her damage worth RM120.
The incident occurred in a longhouse at Mile 16, Jalan Oya on May 27 at about 11.30am.
According to the brief facts of case, on May 27 at approximately 11.30am at the longhouse in Mile 16, Jalan Oya, the accused damaged the wooden panel wall and the toilet door.
The accused was enraged after the complainant declined his request for cash. Following the incident, the complainant lodged a police report for further action.
Later in the night at 11.35pm, a police team led by ASP Musa Dolmat proceeded to the scene of incident and detained the accused for further investigation.
Prior to that, ASP Musa had introduced himself to the accused as a senior police by showing the police authority card.
Police investigation revealed that at about 11.30am on May 27 at the longhouse, the accused had intentionally damaged the wall of the house and the toilet door because he was infuriated after the complainant refused to give him money.
Because of the incident, the complainant suffered a loss amounting to RM120. The incident was witnessed by the accused’s father.
Based on the evidence, the accused had committed an offence of causing mischief.
