BINTULU: The supply of chicken eggs in this division is now stable despite the high demand during Gawai Dayak and Aidilfitri celebrations, recently.
Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said the issue of lack of supply stocks (eggs) was not a big problem as it only happened for a day or two.
“One of the main causes of the lack of supply (eggs) was due to the extensive consumption among the Dayak community, especially the Ibans before the Gawai festival.
“The situation returned to normal when the farmers replenished the supply every two days,” he said.
Nanta added that the total consumption of eggs in Sarawak was 2.2 million eggs per day while the total production is 2.5 million.
Besides, he was proud with the management of Farley Bintulu Mini Supermarket which sold chicken and chicken eggs at cheaper prices than the maximum ceiling price set by the ministry under tje Gawai Day 2022 Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) effective from May 29 until June 4.
Earlier, Nanta and a delegation, accompanied by Sarawak’s chief enforcement officer, Peter J Berinus Agang and the manager of Farley Bintulu Supermarket, walked about the supermarket to review the ceiling price of eight items in conjunction with SHMMP Hari Gawai 2022.
The eight items are live old chicken, chicken wings, garlic (China), imported round cabbages (from Indonesia and China excluding Beijing cabbage), dried chillies, pork (belly) and pork meat and fat.
