KUCHING: The Teochew community here held an online dialogue with their counterparts in China recently in conjunction with the Dragon Boat Festival.
The idea was to provide for the Teochews at home and abroad to interact over their shared traditional customs, including on dumpling-making, feel the charm of the overseas Teochew culture, and promote China’s traditional Teochew culture.
It was put together by the Kuching Teochew Association, Kuching Teokhiaw Club and Sarawak Teochew Sim Clan Association,Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau of Chaoan District Government, Chaozhou City, China, and the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese in Chao’an District.
“The online dialogue during the Dragon Boat Festival was an opportunity to discuss the celebration of the Festival, recalling the nostalgia as well as looking into future celebrations,” said the cultural committee of the Kuching association.
“This event hopes to inspire younger Chinese at home and abroad to work together to build the dream of happy nations,” it added.
The dialogue session was also participated by the West Malaysia Johor Teochew Association.
“This is the first time that an online dialogue was held with the ancestral hometown and it was a very happy occasion for all the participating members,” it added.
