KUCHING: The Sarawak Foundation which turned 50 years old on May 27 celebrated its anniversary at Pullman Hotel here on Tuesday.
The ceremony was officiated at by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also chairman of Sarawak Foundation. He was accompanied by his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Sarawak Foundation director Mersal Abang Rosli and other dignitaries.
In honour of the foundation’s 50th anniversary, Abang Johari launched a video which highlights the foundation’s milestones in spearheading educational development in Sarawak.
He also inaugurated the Sarawak Foundation Hall of Fame to recognise achievers in their respective fields and expertise both in the public and private sectors.
A total of 50 individuals were inducted into the Hall of Fame which highlights the success stories of former Sarawak Foundation students that the foundation has supported over its 50-year history.
A Belian tree which is Sarawak’s official tree was incorporated into the logo of the Hall of Fame of the Sarawak Foundation.
The Belian also known as Borneo Ironwood in the European Union represents tenacity, resilience, patience and determination of the state government through Sarawak Foundation to produce and cultivate leaders and high-quality human capital in the present as well as the future.
The ceremony also saw 31 employees of the Sarawak Foundation receiving Special Long Service awards as a contribution to those who have served for 25 years or longer.
The foundation assures that it will continue to play a vital role in the development of human capital in Sarawak in line with the state’s aspiration to become a developed and high-income state by the year 2030.
