KUCHING: Liew Jiew Kiong recently had his right leg amputated due to diabetes. To make matters worse, he also could not work.

Now on a wheelchair, he is unable to provide for his wife and two daughters, and had to seek help from charity organisation Hope Place Kuching.

Liew, 46, used to sell ducks at the Mile 7 market here. The family lives in Muara Tuang and currently, the only breadwinner is Liew’s mother, who is a nanny. Liew’s wife does not work as she has to look after Liew and helps her mother-in-law babysit.

Hope Place started helping Liew and his family in March, giving them basic food aid as well as supplying adult diapers for Liew.

During a recent visit, the NGO found that Liew’s left leg was swollen and dark in colour and had advised Liew to take extra care of his health so that he does not lose his other leg.
