SIBU: Those in the car repair line need new guidelines on processing the insurance claims.
A spokeman of Sibu Automobile Repairers Association (SARA), Joseph Ling Chi Uh said the association’s main committee had been communicating with the Transport Ministry, Bank Negara and Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) and other relevant governmental departments for solutions on the matter.
“We submitted a memorandum to the government in 2020 on the matter and received a reply from Bank Negara in December last year, saying it would work with us for a solution.
“It hoped our association branches would also work with the government at the state level. On April 6 this year, Bank Negara and our main committee held an online meeting to work on the issue. We were assured that the process in working out the claims would be carried out in a transparent manner,” he revealed when addressing SARA’s installation of new committee for the 2022-2024 term cum presentation of student study incentives for members’ children at a leading hotel here on Saturday night (June 11).
The occasion also witnessed the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony between SARA and Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions (SKGLI).
According to Ling, who was also the organising chairman, IT Outsourcing (ITO) and Federation of Automobile Workshop Owners’ Association of Malaysia (FAWOAM) had formed an independent platform to sort out the issue.
The new method of processing the insurance claims would be carried out on a trial basis from May 15 until Nov 15 this year.
Members from Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM), Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) and the main committee from FAWOAM would all be involved to ensure the process in working out the amount of claims was fair and just.
“We hereby call on all members of our association branches to cooperate fully with the government on this matter,” Ling added.
Meanwhile, Sibu Automobile Repairers Association (SARA), Cr. Teo Nging Poh who touched on other matter said his members have been trying to set up an automobile training centre where they and their workers could attend hands-on training to improve their skills, especially in areas of automobile reapirs and maintenance.
“Fortunately, we found the Nangka assemblyman, Dr Annuar Rapaee to explore the possibility of setting up the training centre in Sibu. Many discussions were held.
“We were introduced to SKGLI by him to go into deeper discussions on the matter. We are still moving forward with more discussions on the matter in the months ahead,” he explained.
Teo who is also the deputy president of FAWOAM said FAWOAM under the stewardship of Khor Kong Siah has been very supportive by giving inputs regarding the setting up of the traning centre in Sibu and had promised to assist in whatever ways possible.
Rearding SARA, he said it has been in existence for 42 years since it was registered on Mar 24, 1980. To date, the association has 170 registered members.
“With this new term which expires in 2024, I will be servong for 20 years as the association’s chairman,” Teo stated.
Dudong assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing who is also Bintulu MP was present to grace the occasion as the guest-of-honour and witnessed the new committee’s installation ceremony.
Also in attendence included Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Dr Annuar Rapee , President of FAWOAM, Khor Kong Siah and Executive Director of SKGLI, Hallman Sabri who is also the chairman of Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres.
