KUCHING: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs is counting on consumers to be its eyes and ears on errant practices in the market.
“After June 30, there is no more price control on chicken and eggs, so consumers are advised to always be prudent in purchasing and continue being the eyes and ears of the ministry,” said its Head of Corporate Communications, Yunus Tasim.
“If there are traders who charge too high and there is profiteering, they can make a complaint to the ministry.”
Yunus said this is necessary so that consumers are not badly affected by the pricing of chicken and chicken eggs.
He explained that the supply of chicken eggs and broilers has been a issue for a long time, so the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) is also responsible for monitoring the supply of these goods.
“We look at the things done by traders so that there is no profiteering and no element of hiding goods to increase prices as stipulated under the Supply Control Act 1961and Anti -Profiteering Price Control Act 2011.”
Yunus said the ministry did a lot of field monitoring in the markets and has thus far found that not many eggs were being sold above the controlled price.
