KOTA SAMARAHAN: A total of 80 eligible B40 students at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) have received Early Learning Assistance (BAP) from Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR).

Unimas Vice Chancellor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said the assistance involved a total allocation of RM80,000 with students receiving RM1,000 each.

“I am confident that the BAP channeled to eligible B40 students can help ease the burden of students to continue their studies at Unimas, including covering their daily expenses,” he said at the BAP YBR presentation ceremony at Dewan Zamrud, Unimas near here, yesterday.

The ceremony saw YBR Chairman Datuk Wira Megat Zulkarnain Tan Sri Omardin handing over a mock cheque for a sum of RM80,000 to Kadim.

Kadim said the university has been making an effort to help students affected by the Covid-19 epidemic.

“Among them is having a strategic cooperation with Bank Rakyat through YBR.

“I understand that this assistance initiative has been implemented since 2017 and so far has helped a total of 4,413 students from various backgrounds of disadvantaged families.
“This BAP is an immediate learning aid given to students who have secured a place in Institutions of Higher Learning and has been handed to public universities since 2020,” he said, adding that this year Unimas managed to receive it.
