MUKAH: A cooking competition was successfully held by the Area Neighbourhood Watch Committee (KRT) of Taman King Sum and Hung Liong at Jalan Desa Merpati here.
Dubbed `Dad’s Yummy Cooking’, the event received encouraging response from the community. Participants were in pairs of either ‘father and son’ or ‘father and daughter’.
Held at the compound of the residence of Jol Una, it was officiated by Mukah Division National Unity and Integration Department Officer, Alan Yeo Ming Hua, who was also the head judge for the competition.
Making up a panel of five judges were two officers from the department and two teachers, Lita Dogoh and Alice Apandi.
The fun-filled and relaxing event ended with the presentation of prizes to the winners, followed by a greenery and starchy mini feast, Ulam and Linut session.
Meanwhile, Kipli Abdullah (former chairman of the KRT) and his son-in-law emerged champion of the cooking competition.
First and second runners-up of the two-hour contest were Sim Bee Lee and son, and Jol Una and daughter respectively.
The fourth and fifth respective places went to Abdul Rahman Dillah and granddaughter, and Jirin and daughter.
In his speech at the event, Yeo praised the committee for coming up with the competition which he considered the best platform to foster closer rapport among the residents of the two housing estates.
KRT chairwoman Jennifer Amir, in her welcoming speech expressed gratitude that the event went on smoothly.
“I would like to thank Alan Yeo and his staffs, including two teachers, as their presence today has one way or another made this programme a very meaningful one.
“Of course, not forgetting my gratitude to all the KRT members involved in rendering the much needed cooperation towards this competition,” she said.
Also present at the half-day competition which kicked off at 2pm were KRT treasurer Sim Kwong Chian, assistant secretary Kamisah, first chairman Sidi Maun and the exco members.
