KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) board chairman Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Datuk Seri Dr Ibrahim Shah Abu Shah attended the Raya Gawai event at UiTM Sarawak here today.
Invitations were also sent out to UiTM Sarawak Retirees Association (PERASA), including former directors, deputy directors and rectors, who were among the 1,000 or so attendees.
“For the first time, we invited former staff of ITM and UiTM Sarawak through PERASA.
“It is understood that more than 100 former staff attended,” said UiTM Sarawak rector Prof Datuk Jamil Hamali.
He thanked members of the organising committee as well as Prof Ibrahim in making the event a success.
He stressed that the cooperation between former staff and the university should be enhanced in the future because “they have the qualifications and are rich in experience.”
The event saw various activities held such as traditional Raya and Gawai costume competitions, food stall decorating competitions and lucky draws.
Guests were also entertained with song performances and feted to Raya and Gawai delicacies such as rendang, ketupat and ayam pansuh.
Also present were deputy rector of Academic and International Affairs (HEA) Prof Dr Firdaus Abdullah, deputy rector of Student Affairs (HEP) Assoc Prof Ts ChM Dr Mohamad Isa Mohamadin and deputy rector of Network and Industry Assoc Prof Dr Abang Zainoren Abang Abdulrahman.
