KUCHING: AZAM Sarawak will intensify efforts to facilitate development in Sarawak by promoting greater awareness on the importance of development communication.
This was said by its newly re-elected chairman Datuk William Patrick Nyigor who pointed out that AZAM will focus on several strategic areas in moving forward.
“These strategic areas include enhancing the importance of communication in development programmes and activities in Sarawak,” he said in his acceptance speech at the organisation’s 39th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held today.
Also re-elected in AZAM Sarawak Exco for 2022 – 2024 term were deputy chairman Datuk Norhayati Mohd Ismail; honorary secretary Mohamad Ariff Irwani Azahari and honorary treasurer Datuk William Wei How Sieng.
Other elected board members were Associate Professor Dr Margaret Chan Kit Yok; Norjanah Razali; Sharkawi Yassin; Dr Peter Mulok Kedit; Patrick Law Yong Ban; Charles Siaw and Khairool Adzelan Aman.
“AZAM Sarawak has over 100 active members comprising government officers, professionals from various backgrounds, members of the private and corporate sectors, media practitioners, retirees and the youth.
“It is a non-profit and non-government organisation established in 1983 which seeks to facilitate development efforts in Sarawak through development communication.
“AZAM Sarawak’s activities target mainly community leaders, rural communities, youth and women, development frontliners, media practitioners, school children and general public,” he added.
Present during the AGM were Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain, former chairman of AZAM and former deputy chairman of AZAM Datuk Dr Hatta Sohlee as well as other dignitaries.
