SIBU: A total of 110 health and general volunteers were involved in the two-day events of the Healthy Athlete Programme (HAP) in conjunction with the Sixth Special Olympic State Games here.
This was shared by Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah when met by reporters after she paid a visit to the programme today.
According to Fatimah, the programme will provide free health screenings and education for a total of 360 athletes and 106 coaches taking part in the games.
“HAP will give additional value to our Sixth Special Olympic State Games as we can ask them (athletes and coaches) to undergo a free health screening from one station to another while waiting for their turns to compete in the games.
“This (HAP) will provide us with an opportunity to hold a health screening for them,” she said.
Fatimah also shared that there are health screening stations provided which included health promotion, fun fitness (physical therapy), fit feet, special smile (dentistry), opening eyes (vision), healthy hearing (audiology), and medfest (sport physical exam).
“It is a comprehensive programme that surely benefits all. It is hard for us to gather all the medical practitioners to join us here all the way from Kuching and Miri.
“I salute them because they are very passionate in their services and willing to contribute to this programme during their day off,” she said.
Apart from that, Fatimah also expressed her gratitude to all the volunteers and sponsors who are also willing to contribute during the programme.
“It is indeed very touching to see the values that are shown by our fellow Sarawakians in terms of providing support system for our OKUs,” she shared.
Fatimah noted that the collaboration between the government agencies, corporate bodies, and the public shown during the programme was solid indication of strong teamwork between them.
“This is exemplary and we would like to see this continue on and always go well for us in Sarawak, as we move toward, develop the state by 2030 but at the same time in terms of the social wellness as well the corporate responsibility, all are well in place,” she stressed.
