KUCHING: Sarawak will need to register an annual growth rate of 6 to 8 per cent to be a developed state by the year 2030.
“Meaning, the state government would need to spend a lot on the economy such as in development projects,” said the Premier’s Political Secretary Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.
“When the state spends money on these projects, industry would need to respond and be ready.
“When the project is given to them, they (the industry) would need experts. This is where Sarawakians come in.
“For us (the experts) to provide what is needed by the industry, we need to equip ourselves with the skills and training to meet their needs,” he said.
He said this to reporters at a gotong-royong programme next to Surau Darul Rahman, Taman Won Matang on Saturday (July 2).
He emphasised that the ecosystem must work together to realise the strategy at hand.
“The government has acquired a lot of income for Sarawak, hence, what is needed now is to spend on our development projects and move towards being a developed state by 2030,” he added.
Meanwhile, commenting on the price hike on goods, he assured the B40 and the M40 groups that the government will give assistance despite the increase in prices.
“Without a doubt these increases in prices impact everyone, however, it is up to the individuals themselves to strategise their spending.
“Aside from the assistance given by the government, they need to list out what is needed and cut costs on those that are not needed,” he said.
