SIBU: The participation of children in colouring contests will expose them to the public and unearth their potential talents and skills.

Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek said participation in such activities should therefore be encouraged among children.

“We cannot lock down ourselves again after two years of the pandemic .

“The most important thing for children now is they need to practise the standard operating procedures (SOP) as advised by the Ministry of Health,” he said at a colouring contest organised jointly by Sri Minyak Group Berhad (Sri Minyak) and United Overseas Bank (UOB) Sibu branch and held at Sri Minyak’s premises here today (July 2), in conjunction with Sarawak Day.

A total of 50 primary school pupils took part in the competition which was divided into lower and higher primary groups with each group having 25 participants.

Joanna Tang Sing Rou of SJC(C) Taman Rejang emerged champion in Group A, followed by Jordan Tang Yong Yi from SJK(C) Su Lai and Annabelle Chung Jing Shuen of SJK(C) Dung Sang in third position.

Frandelica Ng and Dorothy Ling Ong Yu, both from SJC(C) Dung Sang won consolation prizes.

In Group B, Elva Wong Zi Fang and Joey Loh Zhi Xuan, both from SJK(C) Su Lai emerged first and second respectively.

Third place went to Lee Yi Xuan of SK Perbandaran No.4.

Two consolation prize winners were Alvin Tang Jin Xi and Emily Wong Xi En, both from SJK(C) Su Lai.

PicSri Minyak’s Executive Chairman Dato William Tiu, Sri Minyak’s General Manager, Amelia Tiu Siew Yian, Area Manager of UOB for East Malaysia Lee Kui Ping and UOB Sibu branch manager Donald Fu Ping Yung were also present.
