LAWAS: The recently-concluded first Mobile Legend esports tournament ever held here received overwhelming response from the local communities.

The event held in conjunction with ‘Minggu Perusahaan Mikro, Kecil dan Sederhana (PMKS) 2022’, was aimed at transforming communities, businesses and start-ups in Sarawak and to speed up the digital economy process.

The Serba DigitalX Open Innovation Platform said the tournament was jointly together with its partners Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) and SME Corp Malaysia from June 29 to July 4.

The tournament was open to all youth in Lawas for Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB) in team mode.

The champion received a cash prize of RM600, the first runner-up RM300, second runner-up RM250, third runner-up RM200, and consolation winners RM50 each.

Deputy Transport Minister and Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong was present as the guest of honour to hand over the prizes, and to spare some time with the youth community.

SME Corp Malaysia (Sarawak branch) director Faiz R Sutarji said as many as 80 participants, or 16 teams, participated in the competition.

“Four teams out of 16 participating teams advanced to the grand finals, namely IMPOSIBLE, the eventual champion, PEMBURU JANDA (first runner-up), TEAM KAIJU (second runner-up), and NEWBIES (third runner-up).

“Four other teams won consolation prizes,” he said.

Serba Dinamik Digital Sdn Bhd general manager Abdul Qaiyum Alidin said the esports experience by Serba DigitalX Open Innovation Platform through its collaboration partners such as SMECorp Malaysia, Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), Jabatan Wanita dan Keluarga Sarawak (JWKS) and Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (TERAJU) was aimed at transforming communities, businesses and start-ups in Sarawak and accelerating industry towards digital economy and Industrial Revolution 4.0.

Among activities conducted during the Lawas tournament were SME Show-Off, Dapur Sarawak, Lawas Vaganza, Lawas Top Chef, Loyar Kitchen, a breakfast talk, a blood donation, exhibition booths and product demonstrations.
