KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) auxilliary police have conducted a 24-hour surveillance on the campus’s man-made lake following reports of sightings of a medium-size reptile ‘resembling a crocodile’ in the lake on 7 February.
Unimas in a statement yesterday said its security team had also contacted the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) for assistance and advice.
The statement said a joint surveillance operation with SFC’s SMART team was carried out for several nights and they had yet to come across any crocodile in the lake and reports on sightings of the reptile cannot be confirmed.
Unimas said it believed that the sightings of the reptile by its staff could be a huge monitor lizard as several of them had been frequently spotted in the area.
It said although there is no sighting of any crocodile in the lake during the joint operation, the university’s auxilliary police would continue to monitor the lake.
