KUCHING: Sarawak welcomes Singaporean investors to introduce modern farming methods which will increase production of yields and have the products exported to Singapore and beyond.
In a statement by the Sarawak Trade and Tourism office of Singapore (STATOS) a government agency, namely Sarawak Land Development Board (SLDB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Singapore’s Sky Urban Holdings Pte. Ltd on Monday (July 4).
The MOU was inked basically to develop modern agricultural projects within Sarawak.
The modern facilities are deemed to be much more appealing to the younger generation of farmers and also would reduce the number of manpower, increase of productivity and environment sustainability.
Singapore’s very own Sky Urban Holdings is a company that is widely recognised as a pioneer and leading developer of vertical farming technology.
The technology uses green urban solutions to produce fresh and safe vegetables while taking up minimal land, water and energy resources.
Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development (MANRED), Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi shared that he welcomed the investors to Sarawak and bringing technologies for the transformations on the agriculture sectors.
“Singapore is welcomed to take advantage of the available resources and incentives that Sarawak provides. At the same time, Singapore can assist us in achieving our vision in 2030,” he said.
“To ensure a win-win transformation of the traditional farming community into agropreneurs, they encourage the local farmers to adapt to changes and new technologies.
“This will help improve the household income to RM6,000 per month by 2030,” he added.
Chief executive officer, Chew Chang Guan shared the MOU signing was definitely a step forward and currently at least two other Singapore companies are in talks with STATOS, to set up their agri-food production hubs in Sarawak.
Present during the signing ceremony was MANRED’s entourage Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen; Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman; Martin Ben; permanent secretary Datuk Edwin Abit; Department of Veterinary Services director Dr Adrian Susin and director of Agriculture Department Dominic Chunggat.
