BETONG: Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu has called for a Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) Community Innovative Learning (TCIL) branch to be set up in this division.
He said this is to provide exposure to the rural community on the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology (STEM) as well as Digital Innovation.
The Layar assemblyman also suggested schools in Betong set up robotics clubs which can serve as a platform for early robotics technology education.
“Establishing a TCIL and robotics clubs, I believe, would bring about changes in the aspect of technology and digital education among students in rural areas,” he said when officiating at the TEGAS 10th Anniversary Roadshow at SJK (C) Chung Hua Betong.
The roadshow involves 11 selected rural areas in conjunction with the establishment of TEGAS and Betong is the tenth location for the programme to be held.
Among the activities that took place during the programme were karaoke competitions, career and education consultation, 3D technology workshops, drone and robotics workshops, e-Sport competitions, open interviews, robotics exhibitions and Virtual Reality (VR).
The agencies participating in booth exhibitions included the Betong Community College, Politeknik Metro Betong, YAHOS, BSN, EPF, Aitc Kuching College, I-Systems College, Curtin University, i-CATS University College, University Technology Sarawak (UTS), Laila Taib College, Sarawak Centre of Technical Excellence (CENTEXS) and Sarawak Skills.
Also present were TCIL senior manager Fredick Kevin, administrative officer representing Betong Division Resident Denny Lim and Betong District Education Officer Awet Gapor.
