KUCHING: Renowned KAJAI Award-winning journalist Mohamad Shahren Mohamad Yusri shared some useful pointers and his experience as an investigative journalist with editors and reporters of New Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak yesterday (14 July).

“In investigative reporting, you must have an evidence and a solution”, said Shahren, who is now the general manager of Centre of Technical Excellence (CENTEX) Commercial.

He said when writing a story for the prestigious national KAJAI Award, one should have a main story followed by supporting stories.

He stressed the importance of journalists being knowledgeable, having high commitments, creating networking, and always be willing to learn.

Some 60 reporters and editors of the two tabloids attended Shahren’s talk at the Sarawak State Library (PUSTAKA) yesterday.

He said a story requires an introduction, and needs to be expanded with plots and examples.

“What is your objective when writing your story, you must do research and this may take several months, not days and you must be clear of what you wish to highlight.”

An investigative reporter must follow up with the issues at hand and find solutions.

‘’Provide evidence, whether in the form of photos, recordings or authoritative statements,” he added.
