JULAU: The Sarikei Sessions Court on Thursday sentenced two men to jail and ordered them to be whipped for raping an underage girl with disability on June 4.

Judge Stella Augustine Druce sentenced the first accused, a foreigner, to a total of 28 years in jail and ordered him to be given a total of 11 strokes of the rotan after he pleaded guilty to two charges under Section 376(2)(k) of the Penal Code and Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Child Act 2017.

He was sentenced to 15 years’ jail and ordered to be whipped six times for the first charge under the Penal Code, and for the second charge under the Sexual Offences Against Child Act he was jailed for 13 years and ordered to be give five strokes of the rotan.

Earlier on June 20, the accused was charged under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1953/69 for staying in the country for which he was sentenced to eight months’ jail.

The second accused, the victim’s stepfather, was charged under Section 37(3) of the Penal Code and was sentenced to 20 years in prison and ordered to be given 12 strokes of the rotan.

The two were arrested by the police on June 5, a day after the 14-year-old girl was raped.
