KUCHING: A teenage boy pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today (July 18) to molesting his 12-year-old female cousin.
The 18-year-old claimed trial to two charges which were read out by an interpreter before Judge Taufik Mohd Yusoff.
On the first charge, he was accused of raping the victim under Section 376 (2) (d) of the Penal Code.
If convicted, he can be sentenced to imprisonment of not less than 10 years and not more than 30 years and whipping.
The second charge under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017 provides for a jail term of not exceeding 20 years upon conviction, and the accused can be whipped for sexual assaulting the victim.
He allegedly committed the offence at a house in Kampung Semban, BRS Jalan Semedang, here, on July 12.
During the mention of the case, Deputy Public Prosecutor Danial Mohamad Ali did not offer any bail to the accused.
The court fixed the re-mention date for Aug 15, and extended the accused’s remand until the re-mention date.
