KUCHING: Sarawak needs to cooperate with many other credible institutions worldwide in order for its research and development (R&D) products to be recognised, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said the focus and emphasis on R&D products by the state government have borne fruit with its results for all to see.
“God willing, so far we have seen the results from our R&D and we work together with many credible institutions so that we get recognition for our products.
“Many have asked me, why did Sarawak work with the National University of Singapore (NUS)?
“We work together because they have the network with credible institutions worldwide and we need the certification. If we can produce, but the world did not recognize our products, it will be hard for us,” he said.
He then said, with such approach, the state hopes that its products are certified worldwide and accepted by the international market.
“This is our state’s objective,” he said in his speech during the signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) at Petronas Research Centre in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor today (July 20).
At the same time, the Premier also witnessed the signing of two MoU agreements during the function.
The first was the Hydrogen Electrolyser Supply Agreement for Darul Hana and Batu Kawa Hydrogen Refueling Station between SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd and Petronas Technology Ventures Sdn Bhd.
The next MoU was for a Joint Technology Collaboration Agreement for Renewable Oil between SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd and Petronas Research Sdn Bhd.
Earlier, Abang Johari said with the MoU signed, it will strengthen the collaboration between SEDC Energy and Petronas especially in the field of hydrogen usage.
“Petronas has achieved its success in its research to produce hydrogen energy through the process of electrolysis and of course it can further develop how we want to produce hydrogen as an alternative energy that is much needed in the world today.
“As a result, we are very pleased that SEDC Energy is collaborating with Petronas and through our joint research, Malaysia can be an energy supply producer,” he said.
Also present were Petronas Board Member Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, Petronas president and group chief executive officer Datuk Tengku Muhammad Taufik and SEDC Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Husain.
