KAPIT: Some 19 teams throughout the state involving some 200 players and officials are taking part in the badminton competition hosted by the Sarawak Medical Sports Club Kapit branch at the Integrated Sports Complex Jalan Bleteh, starting Friday .
The three-day event was divided into six categories namely men singles, women singles, men doubles, women doubles, men veteran doubles and mixed doubles respectively. The Director Kapit Hospital Dr Hii King Ching officiated at the opening ceremony for the competition on Friday.
She lauded medical staff state wide who were very pro-active in sports to keep themselves fit, adding that physical exercise is good for all ages to keep healthy. “Indeed its great pleasure to know medical staff state wide who were very pro-active in sport Physical exercises is good for all ages to keep healthy. As long as we are able to move, we must exercise to keep fit. “It’s very encouraging to see there are many seniors who were over fifty years old but are still active in playing badminton.
“Badminton is popular among us, not just for the sake of playing but more importantly the game is one form of exercises to keep fit and to inject element of good discipline and promote friendship among one another,” said Dr Hii. Noting not everybody wanted to come to Kapit, she said: “However many of you had made an effort to come.
To many they considered Kapit as an interior town which is remote and isolated that is only accessible by three hours boat ride from Sibu up the mighty Rajang River. In their perception, it’s very remote and isolated place. I congratulate you because you challenged yourself to made an effort to come to see how Kapit looked like,” said Dr Hii. “To participate in this competitions, the result isn’t the most important consideration. It’s more to inculcate sporting spirit, through competitions to evaluate one another standard of play and to make friend.
The objective of this competition to select state players to represent Sarawak to the national competitions in 2018”, added Dr Hii Also present tat the function were the organising chairman, Nanang Agat and the organising secretary Priscilla Padolina.
