MIRI: The implementation of the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway project is the federal government’s commitment to developing more planned and systematic road links to improve connectivity in Sarawak.

According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in line with the strategic direction of the 12th Malaysia Plan, the said project would ensure better socio-economic development to be fully benefited by the people of Sarawak.

“Such projects open up more opportunities for Malaysian families in Sarawak to be involved either as consultants, suppliers or contractors.

“It will create a local economic cycle in addition to producing a more highly skilled workforce and contributing to the development of the State.

“Aside from that, the highway will also expand the transport network and connectivity between towns and districts to potential growth centers such as ports, industrial areas and commercial centers along its route,” he said.

Ismail said the highway development is the result of careful and holistic planning between the federal and state governments.

“The implementation of the project is actually an effort by the federal government to repeat the success of highway projects in the peninsula.

“As we all know, the transformation of rural development along with the surge in economic and social growth potential can be expressed through a good road infrastructure network.

“As such, this project will also be a catalyst for the progress of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) to enable Sarawak to reach the status of a developed state as planned,” he said.
