MUKAH: Fourteen graves were found desecrated with the skeletal remains in some coffins reportedly missing at the Tinging Panggau cemetery in Kampung Sungai Duan, Balingian.

The gruesome discovery was made by family members of one of the deceased who visited the cemetery on Sunday morning.

“Today we found that 14 had been desecrated with some of the coffins taken out and others still in the ground,” said Sungai Duan Youth Club chairman Alex Nyaun.

He said they had already made a police report here.

“We don’t know who did it but they took the bones of the dead and some were left in the bushes nearby,” he said, condemning the act as being disrespectful to the dead.

Alex believes this nefarious activity was carried out more than a week ago as grass was already starting to grow where the coffins had been placed.
