KUCHING: A total of 20 riders from the Sarawak Teachers’ Motorcycle Recreational Sports Club (STBC) joined the convoy in conjunction with the Sarawak State Teachers’ Day Celebration today.
The participation of the Biro Pendidikan Persatuan Pencegahan Dadah Malaysia (Pemadam) in this programme, according to Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Hamzah, is also thought to benefit the community, particularly students.
“The teachers’ participation in this programme not only allows them to take a trip to the countryside and enjoy it, but it also helps them spread the word to specific schools along the way to Limbang.
“Through this programme as well, I am confident that the message of drug prevention education can be delivered directly to schools and communities in the target area,” Karim said.
He said this today during his speech at the flag off of the Motorcycle Expedition in conjunction with the Sarawak Teacher’s Day Celebration at the parking lot of the Sarawak Education Office.
He continued by saying that this effort was a good one because it could help raise community awareness of the risks associated with drug use.
He asserted that it would be critical to educate elementary and secondary school students about the dangers of drugs so that they could develop a healthy perspective.
“School-aged children are the programme’s primary focus this time. By following the recommendations, we can educate the next generation about the dangers of drug use.
“We hope that when they see the adverse effects of the substance, they will grow up with the perception that the substance is a waste,” he emphasised.
Even though Sarawak has the lowest drug use among the states, he continued, it is still important to emphasise this so that these activities are always curbed.
Meanwhile, STBC would go in convoy from Kuching to Limbang involving four schools namely SMK Long Lama, SK Long Kevok, SK Long Seridan and SK Melaban.
Meanwhile, Karim also channelled an allocation of RM10,000 to STBC through the same programme.
