LUNDU: All Ketua Masyarakat and Ketua Kaum (KMKK) of Salako Rara have been urged to work together on preserving the customs of the Salako Rara community.
Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said the uniqueness of the culture and customs of the Salako Rara community should be preserved so that it is not lost due to modernity.
“Cultures and customs that have been inherited over a long time should be instilled in all levels of society, especially the young generation,” he said.
Billy said this at the closing of the Salako Rara Basansam and Babuis Tradiitonal Workshop at Paek Homestay, Kampung Pasir Hulu on Saturday (Aug 13).
In the meantime, he also expressed his appreciation to the Council for Native Customs and Traditions (MAIS) which also attended the two-day workshop for documentation purposes.
The workshop was filled with various lectures, theoretical and practical sessions, which included ways to organise ‘Ajakng’, a handcraft based on Salako Rara customs.
