KUCHING: There is a need for young blood to serve the people, says Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan.
He said Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) had to tap the potential of young, creative, innovative and energetic youths “to make us (GPS) remain relevant besides updating and catch up with the times.”
“Moving forward, let them learn now rather than at a later age. Capitalise on their resourcefulness now and not when they are redundant,” he added.
Snowdan said this when asked by the media for his thoughts on whether new blood should be given priority and be fielded in the coming 15th General Election.
The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts said like it or not, the emergence of new blood was a fact that needed to be recognised.
“So why not make them leaders of today and not wait until tomorrow. Provide them space.
“Undi18 is there for us to tap. Leaders don’t stand alone. There are followers and supporters behind them.
“Thus there should be this responsibility for seniors to groom and give way to the young. After all, leaders are not indispensable.
“Moreover, for democracy to flourish let the young people participate in formulating policies instead of being mere voters. It’s them who live with these policies later. So, make them part of it,” he pointed out.
He said before fielding a young candidate, “ensure they have grassroots support, local, people-centric, have close rapport with people and academically qualified.”
“Parachute choices, more often than not, usually bear unfavourable outcomes.
“In short, they must have the leadership quality, which is notable from their vision, the skills and training they have had prior,” Snowdan added.
