SIBU: Architects create spaces and breathe life into these spaces, thus making them important influencers of society.
Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, Datuk Roland Sagah therefore hoped the 33rd Annual Architectural Student Workshop 2022 (MAKARA) will ignite and encourage a confluence of ideas, knowledge, innovation and design.
“Take this opportunity to share, learn, network, cooperate and collaborate together to build a better future for our beloved country,” he said at the opening of MAKARA yesterday (Aug 22).
He said programmes such as MAKARA play a pivotal role in creating a unique experience for architecture students that transcends the confines of a conventional classroom.
The workshop, he pointed out, will help harmonise the kaleidoscopic range of architecture.
This it can do by providing a platform for architecture students to explore conceptual ideas, develop experimental, sustainable, and innovative designs, showcase their talents, and nurture their leadership and team working skills, he said.
“Most importantly, the workshop challenges students to embark on journeys and experiences that will push them to look beyond architecture as they forge and strengthen the bonds of the architecture student community across the country,” he said when representing Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the event.
He believes the workshop is vital to creating an all-around architecture student who will be ready to face and survive today’s challenging world of architecture.
Also present were University of Technology Sarawak Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid, Bukit Assek Assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek, MAKARA Organising Chairperson Crystal Kulwant, Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia President Associate Professor Sarly Adre Sarkum and others.
