KUCHING: PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has been told to apologise to the people of Sarawak for making insensitive remarks.
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang who made the call said instead of creating chaos and disharmony Hadi should work on improving the lives of impoverished people in his own state.
He fired the broadside after Hadi recently claimed that non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras were the root causes of corruption in the country.
“I agree with Parti Rakyat Sarawak vice-president Datuk Liwan Lagang who said Hadi should be barred permanently from entering Sarawak.
“We do not need such people in our State to split our races.
“As a religious leader and party leader, Hadi should have the wisdom and be humble of character to bring all races together instead of pitting them against one another.
“He should be seen to react positively to all races in Malaysia and not instil hatred among us.”
Lo reminded Hadi that as a multi racial country with different religions and diversified cultures it is important that everyone lives in harmony.
He brought up an incident in 2009 when Hadi insulted the Dayak by calling them ignorant cawat-wearing people who do not know how to vote, an insult that is still simmering in Sarawak.
He said that Liwan is right to recommend to the Sarawak government that Hadi should be barred for life from entering Sarawak as the state will not tolerate bigots who try to create chaos.
Hadi should emulate the exemplary leadership of Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who understands and respects all religions and races in the state, he said.
“In fact all our previous state leaders emphasised respect for all races and religions in Sarawak.
“We have set a good example for the rest of Malaysia and even the world to see how united we are. This is due to the good governance of our leaders.
“Corruption is evil and can destroy Malaysia’s economy but it is not restricted to only a certain race.
“In fact, Sarawak under Abang Johari has made a lot of effort in curbing corruption and abuse of power in the public sector through the State Integrity and Ombudsman Unit,” he added.
