KUCHING: Over 150 participants took part in the ‘Program Kayuhan Santai Merdeka 2022’ in Satok constituency today.
The programme, jointly organised by Kelab Sukan Komuniti (KSK) Satok and Grup Basikal Lejen Kampung Nombor was officiated by Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki.
The flag-off took place at Padang SLPAS Kompleks Sukan Satok with the fun ride route encompassing Jalan Muhibbah, Jalan Patingan, Jalan Dagok, Jalan Muda Hashim, Jalan Haji Mataim and Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol.
Ibrahim commended the organisers on the success of the programme in nurturing the spirit of patriotism among participants.
“It is a good activity to commemorate Malaysia’s independence as participants proudly ride around the villages with their Jalur Gemilang.
“As Sarawakians, we are proud to be part of Malaysia and will continue to stand with the nation,’ he said.
Meanwhile, Grup Basikal Lejen Kampung Nombor spokesperson Shamsuri Osman stated that the programme received overwhelming responses from the local community.
He said the online registration was closed earlier than expected as the number of participants who signed up exceeded their target.
Besides the online registration, there were participants who registered on walk-in basis to participate in the programme.
“There are two events under this programme namely the 5km fun ride for adults and push bike category for children below six years old.
“After the fun ride, there were lucky draws for the participants.
“We are pleased to see participants of all ages taking part in this programme,” he said.
Shamsuri expressed hopes for the programme to be held on a larger scale next year.
