KUCHING: An unemployed man will spend the next five months in prison for threatening to kill his family members after he was reprimanded by them for selling their household goods.
Gilbert Watson Pengabang, 37, pleaded guilty to three charges in the Magistrates’ Court here today (Sept 1).
On the first charge he was accused of threatening to kill his 64-year-old father. For the second charge he threatened to kill his 59-year-old mother, and the third charge, for issuing a threat to kill his 22-year-old younger brother.
He committed the offence at their residence in Taman Moyan Jaya here at about 9 am, last August 26.
Gilbert was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a prison sentence of up to seven years or a fine or both, upon conviction.
The accused was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment for the first charge and three months’ jail for the second charge.
For the third charge, he was sentenced to five months in prison.
Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi ordered the sentence to run concurrently.
Earlier, the court heard that the accused refused to find a job and often pestered his father, the complainant, for money.
On the day of the incident on Aug 26 the accused acted aggressively by threatening his family members after his mother reproved him for selling their household goods in Kampung Gita.
The court was told that the accused had uttered the threatening words against the three family members, “I will kill you and everyone”, while pointing his finger at them.
The complainants, worried for their safety, lodged a police report.
