KUCHING: Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH) is willing to open negotiations with other opposition parties in the state to ensure one-on-one fight against the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Its chairman Chong Chieng Jen said it was necessary to avoid any three-cornered or four-cornered flight in the upcoming parliamentary election as to increase the chances of winning more seats.
He said PH still plays an important role in the next general election, to bring more meaningful reforms for the betterment of the country.
Apart from that, Chong said PH Sarawak had agreed to stick to the distribution of seats as the GE14, where DAP will contest in nine seats, PKR (16 seats) and Amanah (six seats).
“We also decided that each individual party will have the authority to negotiate with any non-GPS parties in Sarawak, on seats allocated to them; where they can decide if they want to give up to other non-GPS parties.”
“They can proceed to do so, without the need to come back to us (PH), which I think is easier and more manageable,” he said after chairing the Sarawak PH meeting at the DAP headquarters here today.
However, Chong, who is also the Sarawak DAP chairman, stressed that all the incumbent seats would be non-negotiable.
Among those present at the meeting were Sarawak PKR chairman Roland Engan, Sarawak Amanah chairman Abang Abdul Halil Abang Naili, where both had been appointed as the PH Sarawak Deputy Chairman, Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong and Bandar Kuching MP Kelvin Yii.
