KUCHING: i-CATS University College will transform their curricula to emphasise the relevance of digital and hydrogen economics in ensuring students are equipped with appropriate knowledge, said Professor Dr Shahren Ahmad Zaidi Adruce.

The i-CATS vice chancellor further stated that the courses will provide students with competences and abilities that will enable them to flourish in an ever-changing and vibrant global market.

Shahren said that the institution has humanised the learning experience by focusing on the individual learner and transforming students into future-ready graduates who succeed in education and skills, livelihood, family stature, and are able to contribute to community and nation development.

He made the remarks during a news conference following the official start of the new semester at i-CATS’s building on Jalan Stampin Timur today, which saw approximately 200 freshmen enrol at their university institution.

“Following the appointment of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as the First Chancellor of i-CATS UC on March 8 last year, we have implemented various initiatives to contribute to the vibrant canvas of human capital development and support our quest to achieve full-fledged university status by 2026.

“At i-CATS UC, our philosophy of teaching and learning is based on the Learning Sciences approach to produce future-ready graduates.

“As a leading tertiary education provider in the region and a hub of educational excellence, i-CATS UC is the destination of choice for many students from Malaysia and overseas who seek tertiary- level qualifications that will prepare them for their future career,” he said.

He emphasised that one of the key areas is optimising the performance of their academic and non-academic staff members, citing examples of academic staff members who, in addition to teaching and administrative responsibilities, conduct research and engage actively with communities and industry sectors.

As a responsible corporate citizen he said, sharing and exchanging knowledge and skills with communities is a crucial pillar for I-CATS UC, facilitating the development of sustainable communities, especially dispersed communities across Sarawak.

Currently, the academic programmes offered at the institute are Accounting and Business, Agrotechnology, Engineering, Hospitality and Tourism, Plantation Management, and Software Engineering.
