PADAWAN: A motorcycle ride to search for their younger brother, who had gone out fishing, ended in a tragic crash with one dead and another severely injured.

The fatal collision, involving two motorcycles, happened along Jalan Mambong around 7.30pm last night.

Padawan district police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the victim is identified as Wellter Rippu, 26, from Kampung Sikog.

The accident occurred when the victim’s younger brother collided with him as he was travelling in the opposite way on his motorcycle from Kuching to Mile 14.

“Due to the crash, the victim sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

“The body was later taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for a post-mortem,” he said.

Meanwhile, his 18-year-old younger brother also suffered severe head injuries and is currently receiving medical care.

The lack of front headlights on both motorcycles, according to Abang Zainal, was the cause of the accident.
