KUCHING: The Physiotherapy Unit of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) has collaborated with the Sarawak Physiotherapy Association (SPA) to observe the World Physiotherapy Day 2022 at the hospital’s day care centre lobby here today (Sept 8).

Deputy Director (Medical) 1 of SGH, Dr Hajjah Hayati Ja’afar, who stressed on the importance of physiotherapy in pre and post care of rehabilitation, officiated by the event.

Dr Nancy George Jette, who is also the head of the hospital’s Physiotherapy Unit, called upon all physiotherapists to work towards their goals in professional development for the betterment of their holistic services to all their clients.

As for SPA president, Angelina Jong, she expressed her desire for better leadership qualities in the physiotherapy profession in order to motivate fellow physiotherapists and cultivate a good work environment which would lead to high productivity and quality services.

The event themed “Osteoarthritis and the role of Physiotherapists in its Prevention and the Management of People Affected by the Condition” this year was to commemorate the works of global physiotherapists and their services for all their clients.

According to a press statement, the World Physiotherapy Day has been joyously celebrated in Sarawak since back in the 1990s and the tradition has been carried out on an annual basis until the stroke of the Cocvid-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, the annual celebration continued though it had to be carried out virtually.

Apart from that, information sheets and posters at the event were aimed to promote and create a public awareness on the role of physiotherapists in the prevention and management of osteoarthritis.

Physiotherapy consultation booths were also set up at the venue and there were also booths from corporate sectors exhibiting rehabilitation items. Several activities were also conducted at the event with a variety of goodies to be won.
