KUCHING: St Thomas’s Cathedral here will toll its church bell to mark the demise of Queen Elizabeth II.
Dean of St Thomas’s Cathedral Kuching the Very Revd Kho Thong Meng said as a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth, the church’s bell was to be tolled 96 times at 9pm last night.
“A toll of 96 times marks the 96 years of magnificent and selfless service of the life of the late Queen,” he said in a statement.
During the toll, he said all lights in the Cathedral compound would be off, and all activities would be put to a halt.
“Joining the world for the loss, we pay our deepest gratitude to this profound and yet humble lady.
“May her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II rest in peace and rise in glory,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bishop of Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei, the Rt Revd Datuk Danald Jute said the church is saddened by the passing of Queen Elizabeth.
“Earlier this year, Queen Elizabeth II celebrated the Jubilee anniversary of her reign as monarch, having served with unstinting faithfulness and dedication since 1952.
“She reigned through 70 years with grace and dignity, deeply rooted in her Christian faith and love for the Lord, Jesus Christ and her love for all the people she served.
“We mourn her death and commend her to God. May she rest in peace and rise in glory,” said Danald in a Facebook post.
