MIRI: The Totally Protected Area (TPA) Management Division of Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) recently conducted the Upskilling Training on Work Environment and Facilities Inspections for TPAs in Sarawak Series 1.
The training held at Niah National Park from Sept 5 to 9 involved 30 park staff consisting of park wardens and rangers from 16 TPAs in Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri region.
According to the custodian of national parks and wildlife in Sarawak, the training was conducted by Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH).
It said a number of modules were presented to the participants including introduction and awareness on facilities maintenance systems and safety practices in work environment.
“Besides that, identifying building infrastructure defects, landscape maintenance, potential hazards, and corrective action.
“Another module was identifying potential mechanical and electrical defects, potential hazard, and corrective actions.
“There was also a module on digitalise inspection checklist and reporting,” it said in a social media post yesterday.
SFC stated that the training emphasised on active learning comprising of hands-on inspection, writing inspection reports, and presentation which is important to enhance staff competency in conducting facilities inspection, inspection reporting, and conducting maintenance work.
“Show training shows our commitment in ensuring the safety of our employees and visitors,” it added.
