KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has advised the public to continue to wear a face mask despite the government having made its use optional in most places.
“As we all know that the Covid-19 situation has improved and the wearing of face masks in enclosed spaces is now optional… And I can see many people are not wearing a face mask today.
“But I think we should continue to take care of our health and stay vigilant, especially at crowded places,” he said at the launching of Pesta Benak or Tidal Bore Festival in Sri Aman today.
Abang Johari said the event was one of Sarawak’s iconic events and centered on the natural phenomenon where water rushes up the Batang Lupar river, was finally back again after two-year lapse due to Covid-19.
“We cannot organise this event due to Covid-19 for the last two years, but thank god, we are able to do it this year as the situation is now under control. We also have to thank the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for their efforts during the pandemic,” he said.
Apart from that, he said, the Sarawak Government had also announced nine packages of the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) to ease the people’s burden during the pandemic. Hence, more people and businesses were now able to return to their normal life.
