KUCHING: SMK St Joseph received a contribution of RM81,754 for upgrading and purchasing of ICT equipment in its classrooms.

The contribution was made by Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii  who paid a visit to his alma mater yesterday.

Yii stated that this was given on top of his initial contribution of RM100,000 for the Mill Hill Block Restoration Project.

As part of the restoration project, nine classrooms were restored, staff rooms and offices were upgraded and new lecture halls as well as meeting rooms were added.

“With the additional classrooms and lecture halls, such upgrades are essential so that teachers can fully maximise their usage for the benefits of students.

“The contribution will allow the school to purchase at least 26 sets of LCD projectors, professional screen, wireless equipment among others.

“This is important as it will equip the new classrooms and replace the older equipment in the other classrooms,” he said.

Dr Yii pointed out that the contribution will also help to equip the school’s media team with the needed equipment including cameras, tripods, video recorders, microphones, smart wireless Bluetooth, and connectors.

He said this will help train students who are interested and strengthen their knowledge as well as skills in the field.

“Since the COVID-19 pandemic occurred, it brought focus on the importance of upgrading ICT facilities in the school in case there is a need for more online classes or even to provide innovative teaching methods for the students,” he said.

Since SMK St Joseph’s founding in 1882, the school has provided quality education to all regardless of race, religion, and background.

Dr Yii said many top-quality students have graduated from the institution and gone forth to make huge difference in the field that they are in.

“That is why it is always an honour to give back to the school that has given me so much,” he added.
